For Therapists
Therapy is more than your modality.
Know thyself
Being a therapist is more than a profession. It’s a calling. Your humanness is the crux of your gift. When we look within and offer a way for our clients to do the same, we are not just reducing undesired symptoms; we are illuminating the path for the soul.
leave a legacy
This is the work that ripples into our world and changes it and us on a molecular level. Sure, you can learn all the tips and tricks, methods, and modalities, but until you can sit in the presence of your own mess and magic, you will not be able to offer it to others.
Becoming a therapist is not an easy adventure.
Odds are that you decided to become a therapist because you have experienced some form of suffering, found your way through healing, and now you want to do the same for others. This is the wounded healer’s heart that often lives at the core of the therapist. But between the pages of your Abnormal Psychology book and your Techniques class, it can be easy to lose sight of the bigger picture, the soul of this work. Therapy is, after all, souls tending souls.
To hold space for our clients, we must learn to hold space for ourselves. The transcendent work happens when we allow ourselves to proverbially bleed our losses and grieve them before we make meaning with them. This is harder than anything you will need to remember from a textbook and takes vulnerability but also courage. Courage to step into the unknown and wade through your own unconscious.
I remember feeling like there had to be more than books and lectures. I remember the desire I felt to work in the transcendent realms with clients, as opposed to spending 50 minutes giving quick tips and tricks to help a client get away from the discomfort. Sometimes the only way out is through. We cannot offer our clients what we cannot offer ourselves. I am passionate about walking the journey beside you. If we want to heal our broken world, first we must look within.
Like Mary Oliver asks, “Are you breathing just a little, and calling it a life?” Or are you ready to meet your longing for depth, and (all hyperbole aside), change the world?
FAQs
What is your rate?
Session are $185 for 50 minutes. I reserve a select number of reduced fee spots for students. Please contact me for more details.
Do you offer Supervision for state licensing?
I do not offer supervision for state licensing. Please visit DORA for resources finding a LPC-Supervisor near you.
Do you take insurance?
I do not accept insurance. Insurance companies require me to diagnose clients, and then often allow only a certain number of sessions based on the diagnosis. Because of our healthcare industry and rules regarding preexisting conditions, I dislike having to formally diagnose a client, which will then stay on medical records. Insurance companies are also notoriously a hassle for clients and providers to manage.
I can offer out of network superbills that you then submit to your insurance company. Many insurance plans will reimburse clients either partially or fully for therapy sessions, you just need to call your provider to check your benefits.
